Coronavirus disease (COVID-19)

June Messages to Members

Dear Club Members,

We would like to keep members up to date with all the new developments at the club.

  1. The Proshop is now fully open for all your golfing needs. Please note that no more than 2 customers should enter the shop at a time, and please follow the one-way system in place to ensure safety for all. Payments can be made by card or members accounts only. No cash transactions.
  2. The Practice ground, practice net and putting green are now open to all golfers (please give priority to lessons). Social distancing is still required.
  3. Competitions are re-starting on 21st June, with the Stableford Final. A new schedule of Club Trophy competitions is available for Ladies and Gents golfers, and all Medal and Stableford competitions in the diary will go ahead as planned but ! Please check the “What’s On” section on the club website, or on notices for full details.
  4. BRS Tee-Booking System will remain: The Committee ask members to continue to use the BRS tee-booking system for all golf, competition and social. The tee-booking will be live 2 weeks before a competition and will remain 1 week before for social golf.
  5. Areas where tree stumps have been removed: Please avoid running over these areas with your buggy, trolley, or on foot. If your ball comes to rest in an old tree stump area being renovated by the greens staff, take a free drop (under the new method and rules) so that these areas can recover quickly and return to be in-play.

Interim regulations for resumption of golf at Thirsk and Northallerton Golf Club

Dear Club Members,

We can confirm that the course will be open from 7.30am to 7pm from Monday 1St June for Members and Visitors to book via BRS or the Proshop..

We are of course obliged to follow the guidelines issued by the government and Golf England. We are hoping that the restrictions will gradually be eased over the coming weeks and will update these regulations on an ongoing basis.

However, unless and until this guidance changes, play will be subject to the following rules:-

  1. Social distancing must always be maintained, in the car park, on the course and throughout the golf club.
  2. At all times, the Green staff must be given priority on the course
  3. Volunteer Course Marshalls will be on the course to ensure these regulations are adhered to, any member found breaking the regulations will be asked to leave the course immediately and may face further disciplinary action.
  4. All play will be in 2-balls (or as singles).
  5. For the present, members may only play if they have booked a Tee-time in advance on the club BRS system, either online, or by contacting the Proshop (01845 525115 option 4) or the club office (option 1). There are no exceptions to this rule. These will be at 10-minute intervals between 8.00am and 7.00pm.
  6. The BRS system will initially be open only for a 5-day rolling period. In order to be fair to all members, no member is allowed to book more than 3 Tee-times per week until further notice, except that members may book otherwise un-booked Tee-times no more than 3 hours in the future. This restriction will be monitored, and appropriate action taken if the system is abused.
  7. Members should arrive at the golf club no more than 10 minutes before their Tee-time, dressed in golf attire ready to play, shoes can be changed in the carpark.
  8. No scorecards will be available.
  9. Private buggies may only be used for single occupancy; buggies can be hired from the club from 8.00am to 3.00pm each day.
  10. The route for leaving the course will be clearly marked to ensure social distancing when finishing play.
  11. Members should leave the golf club within 10-15 minutes of finishing play.
  12. The pin should be left in the hole and not touched by golfers. The ball will be deemed to be in the hole when it sits within the surface circumference of the hole.
  13. There will be no rakes in bunkers, players may place their ball in the bunker to play a shot from a reasonable lie (no nearer the hole), they should then smooth the sand as much as possible for the courtesy of following players.
  14. The clubhouse will be open to use the toilet facilities only, members are asked to thoroughly wash their hands after play and please wipe down and sanitize wash basins door handles etc after use.

Please also note that members with a renewal date of 1st May 2020 or earlier, who have not paid their subs, will not be allowed to play unless payment arrangements have been agreed with the club office in advance.

18th March 2020Given the pace of developments over the last few days, I thought it would be helpful to explain the initial steps taken by the Club in connection with Coronavirus and related matters.

  • I should perhaps stress that this is a rapidly changing situation. We will try to keep this information up to date via the Club Website and member e-mails as matters progress, but changes may have to be made without notice.
  • The safety of our staff, members and guests is, of course, our highest priority and we are following both the guidelines issued by Public Health England and additional guidance issued by other golf related bodies. The current position is as follows:
  • Any member of staff, or club member, returning from abroad must follow NHS guidance on self-isolation before returning to the club.

The Course

  • We believe that simply playing golf on the course poses little threat, provided that members and guests abide by the recommended “social distancing” measures set out in the public guidance. On that basis, the course will remain open for social golf and for visitors. We must, however, put in place some additional temporary rules:-
  • All pins should remain in the hole at all times and should not be touched by any golfer
  • All rakes will be removed from bunkers. Golfers should do their best to smooth bunkers after playing out of them.
  • Golfers should observe the recommended distance of six feet (2m) between each other at all times.

The Clubhouse:

  • The front doors to the clubhouse have been locked and the only entry to the clubhouse is via the main locker room doors.
  • Anyone entering the clubhouse via this entrance MUST use the locker room facilities to wash their hands in the approved manner for 20 seconds before proceeding further into the clubhouse. Please be aware that failure to follow this procedure will result in an immediate request to leave the premises. The clubhouse itself will be cleaned regularly throughout the day.
  • At the moment both bar and catering remain open and the “social distancing” rules noted above should be adhered to. This may well change without notice as matters progress. In the meantime, members and guests must understand that any use of the clubhouse (and in particular any use of the third-party catering services) is specifically at their own risk.
  • If we have to close the clubhouse facilities (but not the course) it is currently intended that the toilet facilities would remain open and be regularly serviced/cleaned.

  • As no competitions are currently qualifying anyway it is likely that all formal competitive golf will be cancelled for the next month or so since this reduces the likelihood of unnecessary social interaction. Further information will follow.

Self-isolation and vulnerable groups

  • We are closely following government advice regarding rules and recommendations for self-isolation and the coronavirus, and would ask anyone visiting us to consider the following:
  • If you live alone and you have symptoms of coronavirus illness, however mild, stay at home for 7 days from when your symptoms started.
  • If you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.
  • If you have either a persistent cough and/or a temperature of 37.8 degrees C or above please do not use our facilities for 7 days.
  • If you live with someone who has any of the symptoms, please do not use our facilities for 14 days from the date their symptoms first emerged.

Pro shop:

  • At the moment we expect that the pro shop will remain open, but all members and visitors must abide by any requirements of the Professional or his staff with reference to entry, hygiene or other procedures.

Club Office:

  • It is currently intended that the club office will remain open at least each weekday morning. Members wishing to liaise with the Office are requested to do so by telephone/email if at all possible. The club office door will generally remain closed at all times. Any member wishing to communicate in person with office staff present should knock on the door and then step back at least six feet (2M) away from the door to allow staff to open it, and enter into any necessary conversation. Office staff will be instructed not to open the door unless this procedure is adopted.
